Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute as Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 3-2 away in the Champions League on Wednesday, ending a difficult run of results.

According to Free Malaysia Today, City arrived in Germany after back-to-back Premier League defeats, their first such sequence since August 2025, with a League Cup penalty shoot-out win over Brighton coming in between those losses.

The English side were far from their best at the Red Bull Arena. They led twice, but on each occasion Leipzig hit back, through Ridle Baku and then Antonio Nusa.

Nusa was a threat from the outset, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma to push a 14th-minute effort over the bar. Leipzig appeared the more settled side, yet they fell behind after 37 minutes when Castello Lukeba turned a Nico O'Reilly cut-back into his own net.

Donnarumma kept out Christoph Baumgartner soon after the restart, but Baku drew Leipzig level with a low drive from a tight angle on the right. Haaland then saw a close-range attempt saved by Maarten Vandevoordt.

Enzo Fernandez restored City's advantage shortly before the hour, heading home a cross from Iliman Ndiaye. The lead lasted only three minutes. Substitute Christopher Nkunku, on the pitch for just four minutes, combined with Nusa, who angled a low finish across goal.

The winner arrived with 12 minutes remaining. Elliot Anderson surged down the right and delivered an accurate cross, and Haaland, wearing the captain's armband for the first time this season, had drifted to the far post to tap in.

The Norwegian has now scored 13 goals in nine games against Leipzig, more than against any other opponent, including five in a 7-0 victory in March 2023.

Leipzig, who are rebuilding under new coach Martin Demichelis, had won five out of five at home, scoring 19 times without conceding, but have now won only one of four Champions League matches. Nusa, Haaland's international teammate, has six goals and seven assists in 14 appearances this season as the club seek to fill the gap left by Yan Diomande's summer move to Real Madrid.
