1. Accuracy and verification

Publishing quickly must never come at the cost of accuracy. Our writers are expected to verify material information before a story goes live.

• Names, dates, results, statistics and direct quotations are checked against reliable sources.
• Whenever possible, reports rely on official competition records, clubs, governing bodies, first-hand reporting or clearly identified primary sources.
• Unconfirmed reports and transfer speculation are presented as such and are never described as established fact.

2. Fairness and independence

Sport inspires strong opinions. Our news reporting remains fair, evidence-led and independent of personal loyalties.

• People and organisations covered in our reporting are given appropriate context and a fair opportunity to respond to significant criticism.
• News, analysis and opinion are kept distinct. Commentary is clearly presented as analysis or opinion.
• Headlines and images must accurately reflect the article and must not deliberately mislead readers.

3. Sources and attribution

We credit original reporting and respect the work of journalists, photographers and other publishers.

• Information first reported elsewhere is attributed to the original source wherever it can be identified.
• Anonymous sources are used only when there is a legitimate public-interest reason to protect them and the information has been independently assessed.
• Images, data and quotations are used with appropriate permission, licensing or attribution.

4. Corrections and updates

When we make a factual mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently.

• Material corrections include a note explaining what was changed.
• Developing stories may be updated as confirmed information becomes available.
• Minor spelling, grammar or formatting changes may be made without a correction note when they do not alter the meaning of the story.
