Jack Grealish was left out of Everton's squad for Monday's Premier League victory over Newcastle United, with the club citing a lack of match fitness, ESPN reports.
The 31-year-old's absence came just days after he was dropped for Thursday's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against the same opponents for a breach of club discipline. Everton won that cup encounter 3-1.
According to ESPN, a starting lineup post on Everton's official website explained that Grealish was not fit enough to feature when the two clubs met again at St James' Park in the league.
Everton completed a double over Newcastle within four days, with Thierno Barry scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win.
Grealish had also missed the Toffees' 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on 24 October, although on that occasion his absence was attributed to illness.
Speaking after Monday's match, manager David Moyes said the midfielder was not yet available. When asked whether Grealish could still have a role at the club in the longer term, Moyes was clear: "Of course there is, yeah."
The former Aston Villa player is spending a second successive season on loan at Everton from Manchester City and has made six appearances for the club so far this term.
In the previous campaign, he recorded two goals and six assists across 20 appearances before a foot injury in January ended his season.
Grealish was not included in the England squad that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, where they were beaten by Argentina.
