Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former world number one who previously coached Carlos Alcaraz, is set to become part of Ben Shelton's coaching team ahead of the 2027 season.
According to Free Malaysia Today, the Spaniard confirmed the move on Monday from Villena. Ferrero parted ways with Alcaraz late last year after a partnership that produced six major titles for his fellow Spaniard.
The 24-year-old American already works with his father, Bryan Shelton, who will remain part of the team. Ferrero said he was delighted to join Bryan and the rest of the group, praising the player's talent, power and character, and describing the arrangement as an exciting new chapter.
Shelton, currently ranked fourth in the world, returned the compliment. "Juan Carlos is one of the great minds in tennis," he said, adding that Ferrero's experience of winning at the top level and developing champions would be a major asset.
The appointment follows a strong year for the left-hander. Shelton lifted trophies in Dallas, Munich, Stuttgart and Montreal, and also reached the final of the US Open.
The new partnership will not begin immediately. Shelton is focused on the remaining events of his season, with the Paris Masters and the season-ending ATP Finals both taking place this month. He will start working with Ferrero during the off-season, giving the pair time to prepare before the 2027 campaign gets under way.
The link-up brings together one of the most successful coaches of recent years and a player who has established himself among the leading names in the men's game.
