Inter Milan put their faltering Champions League campaign on a firmer footing with a 3-0 victory away to Feyenoord on Tuesday, with Yann Bisseck, Pio Esposito and Piotr Zielinski all on target.
According to The Sun Malaysia, the Serie A champions arrived in Rotterdam having been beaten in both of their first two group fixtures, but they proved far too strong for a Feyenoord side that struggled to cope with their speed and attacking threat.
Inter took control from the start at De Kuip and were rewarded in the eighth minute. Bisseck, the German defender, was afforded room on the edge of the penalty area, turned and bent a low left-footed effort past Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst.
The home side found it difficult to escape Inter's pressing, and the visitors held the bulk of possession and territory during the opening stages. Feyenoord did not test their opponents seriously until around the half-hour mark, when a neat exchange of passes sent Anis Hadj Moussa through, only for his attempt to be blocked.
Inter added a second soon after. England international Djed Spence was left unmarked on the right, and when his shot deflected up off a defender, Esposito headed in from close range.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team fared no better after the interval. Their defenders retreated as Zielinski advanced, and the Polish midfielder struck a powerful shot in off the post in the 54th minute to make it 3-0.
With the result settled, Inter coach Cristian Chivu made several substitutions, including taking off striker Marcus Thuram. Play was briefly halted midway through the second half after fireworks set off outside the ground came down on the pitch and the stadium roof. The remainder of the contest passed quietly, with Inter comfortable and Feyenoord unable to create meaningful chances.
The result lifts Inter into the middle of the Champions League standings. Feyenoord, who have won just once, remain some distance from the knockout places.
Feyenoord host Porto in their next Champions League match, while Inter are at home to Stuttgart.
