Arthur Fils will make his debut at the season-ending ATP Finals after his place in Turin was confirmed on Wednesday, with the clinching result coming from another player's match.

According to The Straits Times, citing Reuters, the 22-year-old Frenchman qualified when fellow countryman Quentin Halys defeated American Frances Tiafoe 6-3 1-6 7-6(9) in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Fils, currently ranked seventh in the world, becomes only the 10th French player to reach the elite eight-man event. He is the first since Gael Monfils, who appeared in 2016.

He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Flavio Cobolli among the confirmed qualifiers. Jannik Sinner has also earned a spot but will not take part because of injury, so two places in the field are still to be decided.

Qualification caps a productive season for Fils despite physical setbacks. He lifted two titles this year, claiming his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy at the Cincinnati Open as well as winning the Barcelona Open.

However, injuries forced him to miss two Grand Slams, the Australian Open and the French Open.

The ATP Finals will take place in Turin from 15 to 22 November.
