Marc Marquez put himself on the verge of an eighth world title after a dominant win in the MotoGP race at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the reigning champion took the chequered flag for Ducati Lenovo Team ahead of Pedro Acosta, with his brother Alex Marquez completing the podium in hot conditions.

Alex Marquez had claimed pole position, and Marc lined up beside him on the front row. The older brother seized the lead at the first corner and was never challenged for it from that point.

The result came on a weekend when Marquez's closest championship challenger, Aprilia rider Jorge Martin, was absent from the Sepang race after breaking his wrist.

That leaves Marquez, who finished second to Acosta in Saturday's sprint, with the chance to wrap up the title at the next round in Qatar. Three race weekends remain on the calendar.

Marquez heads the standings on 399 points. Martin holds second place with 355 points, while Marco Bezzecchi is third on 332 points.
