Thierno Barry continued his fine run of form with two goals as Everton recovered from a goal down to defeat Coventry 3-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday and move up to fifth in the Premier League.

According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, Coventry went ahead in the 52nd minute when Jack Rudoni's pass slipped through loose Everton marking to Yann Gboho, who squeezed his finish beyond Jordan Pickford from six yards. It was the Ivory Coast midfielder's first goal since joining from Toulouse in the close season.

Everton's response was swift. Four minutes later, Vitaliy Mykolenko delivered a cross that found Barry free in the box, and the French striker headed past Carl Rushworth. In the 62nd minute, Barry followed up after his first effort was saved to put the hosts in front, despite Coventry claiming handball.

The 24-year-old then turned creator in the 81st minute, threading the ball through for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to drive home from a narrow angle and seal a third straight win in all competitions.

Barry now has 10 goals this season, already more than he managed across the whole of the 2025-26 campaign after arriving from Villarreal, and has scored six times in his last seven outings. Earlier in the week, Moyes suggested Manchester City's Erling Haaland "should be worried" about the forward.

The result marked a milestone for Moyes, who equalled Harry Catterick's record of 592 matches in charge of Everton. The club, now in his second spell as manager, have not won a trophy since 1995.

Everton's recent run, which includes two victories over Newcastle in the League Cup and the league, has come without Jack Grealish, who has been suspended for a disciplinary breach after he reportedly missed a training session.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard, a former Everton boss, was left aggrieved by two turned-down penalty claims. His side felt James Tarkowski should have been punished for pulling Caleb Yirenkyi's hair, and VAR also took no action when Mykolenko pushed Taiwo Awoniyi just after the interval. Rudoni had earlier wasted a good opening by shooting straight at Pickford.

The defeat, in the first meeting between the clubs since 2001, leaves 16th-placed Coventry with three losses from their last four matches.
